Self-management is a term that covers a whole range of things you can do to help yourself live a better life if you have a long term medical condition. Over 15 million people live with alongterm medical condition. It is aprocess of managing own condition on a day to day basis,by taking decisions about their care and engaging healthy lifestyle to reduce physical and emotional impact of their illness with or withoutthe collaboration of health care system .

People only spend 3 hours a year with health care professionals and rest of the time they manage of their own health or self-managing

One of the most important things to remember is that you can change your behaviour. Eventhough your illness makes you feel helpless at times,if you work with your doctor to set goals and you take responsibility for following through with them ,you can make changes that will lead to better health.
